Delighted to see this review of Retirement by Design written by a blogger in the UK who has been retired for several years and remarks, “Had I had a guide like this in 2010, maybe I would have done a few things differently!” He also states: “This is one of the most comprehensive books covering all aspects of retirement that I have read. Unlike many, it does not just focus on the financial side. Many years ago, I founded the Professional Development Roundtable for Global Law Firms, which is now run by Lisa Horowitz. I was invited – and delighted – to speak to the group about my forthcoming book, Retirement by Design, and its relevance to them and their firms.

NALP Professional Development Institute

I was honored to present at the 2019 PDI on “Sponsorship for Diversity: Meeting Client Expectations,” together with Shehzad Hasan and Jasmine Cooper from Steptoe & Johnson, and Duncan Logan, VP and Associate General Counsel of MetLife. We spoke about the development and design of Steptoe’s sponsorship program, and discussed how that program met MetLife’s expectations for its outside counsel to increase diversity through sponsorship.

Futures Conference

The College of Law Practice Management held its 2019 Futures Conference in Nashville. I served as chair of the InnovAction Award Committee this year, and we were pleased to give the 2019 awards to Suffolk University Law School and Siskind Susser, PC.

A Fireside Chat on Mentoring and Gender with Ida Abbott

The Los Angeles Intellectual Property Law Association Women in IP June event will be a “fireside chat” about mentoring and gender, especially in the wake of #MeToo. The program is being co-sponsored by and held at Venable LLP. The event is not specific to intellectual property law and is open to attorneys in all practice groups. Opportunities and Optimism after 69

I led a lively and fascinating discussion at my 50th reunion at Smith College. Sixty percent of our class attended and what a group it was! The vast majority of these women married and had long careers, many are still working, most were and are politically and intellectually engaged, and all had great stories to tell.
