I was honored to present at the 2019 PDI on “Sponsorship for Diversity: Meeting Client Expectations,” together with Shehzad Hasan and Jasmine Cooper from Steptoe & Johnson, and Duncan Logan, VP and Associate General Counsel of MetLife. We spoke about the development and design of Steptoe’s sponsorship program, and discussed how that program met MetLife’s expectations for its outside counsel to increase diversity through sponsorship.

The College of Law Practice Management held its 2019 Futures Conference in Nashville. I served as chair of the InnovAction Award Committee this year, and we were pleased to give the 2019 awards to Suffolk University Law School and Siskind Susser, PC.

A Fireside Chat on Mentoring and Gender with Ida Abbott
The Los Angeles Intellectual Property Law Association Women in IP June event will be a “fireside chat” about mentoring and gender, especially in the wake of #MeToo. The program is being co-sponsored by and held at Venable LLP. The event is not specific to intellectual property law and is open to attorneys in all practice groups. Opportunities and Optimism after 69
I led a lively and fascinating discussion at my 50th reunion at Smith College. Sixty percent of our class attended and what a group it was! The vast majority of these women married and had long careers, many are still working, most were and are politically and intellectually engaged, and all had great stories to tell.

The October 2018 issue of Modern Legal Practice contains a host of interesting articles. I’m honored that one of my articles is among them. It discusses the importance of focusing on high-quality mentoring and sponsorship to promote inclusion as well as diversity. The article also discusses cross-gender mentoring and sponsorship in the wake of #MeToo, and describes some specific initiatives that are showing promising results.
