Tools to Advance in Your Federal Career

On September 23, I will be speaking at a Federal Women’s Leadership Summit program in Washington, DC on how women can advance in careers with the federal government. My focus will be on sponsorship, mentoring and coaching. The session is sponsored by The National Equal Pay Task Force, in collaboration with the U.S. Office of Personnel Management, the U. S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs and Women’s Bureau, and the Department of Justice, in partnership with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.  

Developing Women Leaders

On Friday, September 20, during the ABA Tax Section’s Fall Meeting, I will be speaking about “Developing Women Leaders.”

Connecting Core Competencies

2013 Hastings Leadership Academy for Women

Registration for the 2013 Hastings Leadership Academy for Women is open. This leadership development course, designed for women law firm partners and in-house counsel, is an extraordinary learning experience for women who are current leaders or rising stars, and a way for firms and companies to further their commitment to women’s advancement.

Creating and Maintaining a Successful Women’s Initiative

I will be a speaker in a teleconference sponsored by the ABA’s Young Lawyers Division (YLD) Women in the Profession Committee on “Creating and Maintaining a Successful Women’s Initiative.” The hour-long program starts at 1:00 ET on Thursday, July 18, and is complimentary for YLD members. Article about Women’s Initiatives

The latest issue of the ABA Journal features articles about women, including one (“Do Women’s Initiatives Work?”) in which I am quoted. While the quotes are accurate, the author erroneously states I practiced at Orrick. While Orrick is a fine firm, I never worked there; I spent most of my law practice career at another outstanding firm, Heller Ehrman White & McAuliffe, which alas, no longer exists.

NAWL Regional General Counsel Institute

The National Association of Women Lawyers is holding its first Regional General Counsel Institute in Mountain View, CA to focus on best practices for building a successful and satisfying career. I will be leading a panel of General Counsel.

NALP Annual Education Conference

At this year’s NALP Annual Education Conference in Tampa, FL, I will be presenting on “Sponsorship programs: An effective advancement strategy for women or a waste of time?” 

Bay Area Professional Development Consortium

I will discuss new developments and best practices in talent management with the Bay Area Professional Development Consortium, in San Francisco on April 2.

Engaging men to support women

The CLUB, an incubator of women leaders, is holding a series of engaging conversations between women and men about women’s leadership. I will facilitate the inaugural discussion, entitled Leveraging Feminine Leadership, on March 28, 2013, in San Francisco. For more information, click here.
